ABOUT THE ARTIST

MarianneDicaire_LOffrandeDeLaMer_2000X3000px.jpg

Marianne Dicaire is a contemporary painter based in Gatineau, Québec. She grew up in a small town in Ontario, immersed in nature, an environment that fuelled her boundless imagination. As a child, she would spend hours exploring the forest, captivated by its shapes, shadows, textures, and scents—elements she quickly translated into realistic drawings.

In her twenties, she studied graphic design and psychology. In 2017, she earned a bachelor's degree in visual arts from Université Laval in Québec City, with an international profile completed through a student exchange at École supérieure d'art et de design Marseille-Méditerranée in France. During this time, her travels across Europe and exposure to diverse artistic movements became a pivotal moment in her practice. She moved away from realism, embracing imaginative forms in her paintings and drawings—abstract, organic, and vibrant compositions, often featuring distorted characters.

Today, her contemporary work exists within a space where figuration and abstraction coexist harmoniously.

‘’My art emerges from a blend of dreams and aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, inspired by elements such as mushrooms, algae, corals, tides, and organic forms. These elements come to life on my canvases, manifesting in various shapes and intertwining in a vibrant, colourful, evolving world rich in gestural expression, all set against abstract backgrounds.’’

She aims to captivate the viewer’s attention, prompting them to analyze and question their sensory and psychological perceptions. Through this process, her creations become colourful and contrasting forms within an abstract world brimming with life and movement. Each gaze at her works unveils new interpretations, inviting an intuitive exploration of the imagination and nature.
